Innovation through Cloud Computing

Cloud Computing is an important new development. It ensures the use of ICT facilities being cheaper, more efficient and sustainable. Cloud computing leads to a host of innovations, not only in the ICT sector but specifically in sectors where ICT is part of the primary process e.g. at financial institutions. 

Service suppliers from the ICT sector and their customers develop all sorts of new offerings, by combining traditional services with new ICT-enabled solutions – e.g. the cooperation between Exact and Rabobank to combine financial administration with banking services. 

In the long term Cloud Computing will form the basis for Software-as-a-Service (SaaS). The SaaS development leads to a rapid change in many traditional sectors and markets. 

A business like Google now enters new markets like telecom, healthcare, entertainment as well as financial institutions. This shows that a host of innovation in these sectors can be expected, driven by new possibilities of ICT. 

SaaS offers opportunities both to the public sector and to the private sector. It offers means not only for large global companies but also for small and medium-sized enterprises (SME) and local markets. 

In this lecture a few relevant examples will show this phenomena specifically on the cross-fertilization between the different markets.

How to Capitalize on the Cloud

To gain greater agility, transparency and cost control, leading CIOs are embracing an emerging opportunity: migrating their application portfolios to the cloud. But to maximize the returns from moving to the cloud, Accenture recommends that IT organizations first optimize their application portfolios—which involves analyzing the portfolios to identify the applications that are best suited for the cloud— and create a plan for transforming operating models and the IT organization to become much more cloud-friendly. Recognizing these cloud migration requirements, Accenture has developed the Accenture Cloud Application Factory: an industrialized delivery approach that makes it easier to either migrate existing applications or custom-build new ones on a Cloud platform, such as e.g. Force.com. Mr. Saideep Raj will discuss the rationale behind the Accenture Cloud Application Factory and how it enables IT organizations to reduce cloud migration costs by using repeatable delivery processes, scalable delivery resources, and proven development tools.
